NORTH KOREA (ALBOENEWS) — A ban on travel by U.S. passport holders to North Korea will take effect on September 1st. Americans in the country should leave before that date, according to the U.S. State Department.
This comes after the U.S government said last month that it would ban Americans from traveling to the country due to the risk of “ long-term detention.”
The death of Otto Warmbier, an American college student to traveled to North Korea who was then sentenced to a prison camp after stealing a poster, as well as recent missile tests from North Korea, seem to have prompted this response from the U.S. State Department.
North Korea will become the only country to which Americans are banned from traveling.
