SHOALWATER BAY, AUSTRALIA (ALBOENEWS) — Search and rescue operations have continued into early Sunday morning off of the eastern Australian coast for three missing U.S. Marines.

The Marines went missing Saturday afternoon after a MV-22 Osprey had a "mishap" after taking off from an amphibious assault craft during exercises with the Australian military, according to the U.S. Marines. The ship immediately sent smaller ships to begin a recovery effort, and have recovered 23 of the 26 personnel that were on the aircraft.

No word as to what caused the incident.
