#BREAKING: Tight Police Coverage at Berkeley Protests amid Confrontations

BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA (ALBOENEWS) — The situation in Berkeley seems to be rising as protesters and counter-protesters begin to clash in the area.

According to reporters on the ground, police have a large presence in and around the Berkeley Civic Center, and it appears that the counter protesters are marching towards their opposing camp. Police are enforcing a strict no mask policy in the area.

According to NBC Bay Area, multiple arrests have been made.

UPDATE:

A large contingency of masked individuals has shown up displaying a banner that reads: “Avenge Charlottesville, protect your community.” (4:07 p.m. ET)

Police have left the Civic Center Park as protesters swarm the area. (4:41 p.m. ET)

NBC Bay Area reporting that gas bombs have gone off, dispersing the crowd. (4:42 p.m. ET)

KRON4 in the Bay Area is reporting that police are asking all people to leave the area. (4:43 p.m. ET)
