#BREAKING: 8.4 Earthquake Strikes Southern Mexico

CHIAPAS, MEXICO (ALBOENEWS) — According to the United States geological survey, a large 8.0 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of southern Mexico.

A tsunami watch has also been issued for Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, and Ecuador.

UPDATE:

New update from the NWS PTWC puts the magnitude of the earthquake at 8.2. Possibility of tsunami waves of three meters or greater in Mexico. (1:41 a.m. ET)

74% chance of at least 100 fatalities according to the USGS PAGER service. (1:44 a.m. ET)

NWS PTWC confirms that there has been a tsunami wave in Mexico, the largest yet being .7 meters, or 2.3 feet. (2:18 a.m. ET)

At least two people have died from the earthquake, according to BNO. (2:23 a.m. ET)

The Mexican National Seismological Service has risen the magnitude to an 8.4.

AP is reporting that the death toll has risen to 35. (2:54 p.m. ET)

LA Time is reporting that the death toll has risen to 61 (9/9 1:12 p.m. ET)

AP, quoting Mexican officials, say that at least 90 people have now died. (9/10 1:31 p.m. ET)
