FLORIDA (ALBOENEWS) — Hurricane Irma has already knocked out power to more than 1.3 million homes and businesses in Florida, according to Reuters. Florida Power & Light says over a million of its customers are without power. Keys Energy Services reports 29,000 of its customers are without power.
FPL warned Friday that Irma could impact more than 4 million customers. The Category 4 hurricane headed toward the Florida coast with sustained winds of 130 mph Sunday morning.
UPDATE: Florida Governor Rick Scott requests a major disaster declaration from President Trump as Hurrican Irma makes landfall in Florida, according to Reuters. Scott says, “There is a serious threat of significant storm surge flooding along the entire west coast of Florida and 15 feet of impact above ground level in southwest Florida.” 12:51pm ET
