FIJI ISLANDS (ALBOENEWS) — A strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck the Fiji Islands on Tuesday afternoon, according to the USGS.
The earthquake struck SW of Nuku‘alofa, Tonga and SE of Suva, Fiji at about 12:20 a.m. ET Tuesday, which was Tuesday afternoon in the affected area.
According to the USGS, there is a 34 percent chance of fatalities resulting from the earthquake.
UPDATE: The 6.4 quake was preceded by a 5.1 earthquake in the region.
