#BREAKING: Reported Escape of Inmates in North Carolina

ELIZABETH CITY, NORTH CAROLINA (ALBOENEWS) — There has been an attempted escape of prisoners at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, according to officials.

Several employees of the faciiity have been injured, and fires have been set.

Schools in the area are on lockdown, according to WRIC-TV.

The prison is a male-only facility with nearly 900 inmates, according to Newsweek.

UPDATE:

WRIC reports that there was an attempted escape and fires set at the prison’s sewing plant. 6 patients have been received at a local hospital. All local schools have had their lockdowns lifted. (5:15 p.m. ET)
