KENNER, LOUISIANA (ALBOENEWS) — An oil rig has exploded in Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana, according to local media.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening and has caused multiple injuries.
According to emergency officials, at least six injuries have been confirmed, but many others are believed to have occurred.
- Some of the injuries are believed to be life threatening, officials say (10:00 p.m. ET)
- At least one person is missing, officials say (10:30 p.m. ET)
- A huge emergency response is underway, with rescue boats. “Flames could be seen from the area and the air smelled of burning rubber. Dozens of police vehicles, fire trucks and ambulances were on scene,” according to reports.
- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s department has located the body of the missing worker, identified as 44-year old Timothy Morrison.
