Texas Tech University Police have released an emergency notification for students on the Texas Tech campus to evacuate amid reports of a bomb threat. All buildings are being evacuated and people are asked to bring their personal belongings to an off-campus location.
There is reportedly a package in the parking lot outside of the Talkington Hall dorm. Investigations are currently underway.
Bomb squad is currently onscene with a police robot to investigate the suspicious package. The package is reportedly attached to a vehicle. They are asking people to continue to avoid the area. (source) 5:02 p.m. ET November 20, 2017
A bomb threat has also been reported at a nearby bank. A man walked into the bank, dropped a bag, said “it’s a bomb” and ran out. Police has described it as a pipe bomb. Lubbock police say that the two incidents may be related. The bomb squad is now moving from Texas Tech to the Happy State bank. (source) 5:08 p.m. ET November 20, 2017
Local TV station KCBD-TV reported on air that police have removed the suspicious package at Texas Tech in a containment pod. Officials have yet to describe what the object is, but only said “bomb squad felt it needed to be contained.”
They have also provided a description for the man who left a “pipe bomb” at the Happy State Bank. He is a white male, late 20s to early 30s. He has a beard and a dark-colored toboggan. He fled the scene on a bike. 5:43 p.m. ET November 20, 2017
