Robert Mugabe has stepped down as the President of Zimbabwe on Tuesday, a week after an apparent coup. Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe for 4 decades, over which his status has changed from hero of independence to ruler with an iron fist.
Mugabe sent a letter of resignation to Parliament as they began impeachment proceeding, which were then halted. After the announcement, wild celebrations began in both the Parliament and in the streets of Zimbabwe, especially in the capital city of Harare. (source) 12:24 p.m. ET November 21, 2017
