Former Phillies right handed pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has died in a traffic accident in Havana, Cuba. Gonzalez, a Cuban native, was signed by the Phillies in 2014 to a $48 million contract, which was later reduced due to health issues.
Gonzalez left Cuba searching for employment playing baseball in the United States, enduring the harrowing process of leaving the island. Gonzalez is regarded as one of the best starting pitchers in Cuban history. (source) 4:01 p.m. ET November 24, 2017
