At least 235 people have died after militants attacked a mosque in a small town in Egypt. The attack began with a bomb detonation, and then gunfire sprayed over the large crowd as panic set in. Officials have called it the deadliest terrorist attack in Egypt’s modern history.
Attacks on mosques in the predominantly Muslim Egypt are exceptionally rare, with ISIS typically targeting churches in the region. Most of the victims were Sufi Muslims, a sect of Islam that has been deemed heretical by extremists. The attack was ruthless, with gunmen picking off women and children as they attempted to flee and the injured calling for help. (source) 3:34 p.m. ET November 24, 2017
