Major tobacco companies will begin running advertisements on Sunday on television and in print to correct lies they have told about the benefits of smoking. The ad buys will come after a 2006 court ruling meant to “punish cigarette makers for decades of deceiving the public about the dangers of their product.”

‘“More people,” one ad says, “die every year from smoking than murder, AIDS, suicide, drugs, car crashes, and alcohol, combined.” Another reads: “Cigarette companies intentionally designed cigarettes with enough nicotine to create and sustain addiction.”’ (source) 5:39 p.m. ET November 25, 2017
