At least 12 people are dead, including a 1-year-old, following a massive fire in The Bronx, New York City.
In addition, four are in critical condition and many others are believed to be injured, according to Mayor de Blasio. The fire broke out Thursday afternoon and quickly spread. de Blasio is calling the fire the worst in the city in decades. (source)
The cause of the fire has been determined to be a 3 year-old who was playing with a stove. His screams alerted his mother, who then quickly escaped their apartment with him and his younger sibling, but left the door open. This created a chimney-like effect in the stairwell, spreading the fire throughout the building. At least four children were amongst the 12 dead (NYPD say four children and FDNY say 5).
