Legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson, the man credited with coining the phrase “granddaddy of them all” for the Rose Bowl, has died at the age of 89.

Jackson was widely known as the voice of college football for several decades, making memorable calls for ABC Sports. His final game was the famous 2006 Rose Bowl that pitted Texas versus USC. He was named National Sportscaster of the Year five times.

Jackson was born on October 28, 1928, in Georgia. In addition to his broadcasting career, he spent four years in the Marines and graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from Washington State University. (source) 11:28 p.m. ET January 13, 2018
