A fifth Democrat, Pramila Jayapal, has announced that they will boycott President Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address.
Jayapal joins John Lewis, Frederica Wilson, Earl Blumenauer, and Maxine Waters. In a video posted to social media, she said: “I’m here on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to say I will not be going to the State of the Union,” she added, “I think it is absolutely unacceptable to see the racism and the hatred coming out the White House in a way in which this president is fueling the flames of divisiveness across our country.”
Jayapal also went on to criticize Trump for “demeaning entire countries [by] calling them remarkably vulgar terms.”
Donald Trump has denied that he has said any such comments, saying on Twitter that, “Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said ‘take them out.’ Made up by Dems.” (source) 6:02 p.m. ET January 15, 2018
