An intercontinental hotel is currently under attack in the Afghan Capital of Kabul.

Officials say that the attackers have been shooting at guests of the hotel. There are no casualty numbers at this time. Special forces are currently attempting to engage the attackers. The hotel is reportedly the same one that was attacked by the Taliban in 2011. 21 people died in that attack. (source) 12:30 p.m. ET January 20, 2018


There are reportedly at least four gunmen carrying out the attack. They are heavily armed and wearing suicide vests. According to eyewitnesses, part of the building has been set on fire. (source) 12:37 p.m. ET January 20, 2018


Two days ago, the U.S. State Department sent out a security warning, saying that extremist groups may be planning attacks on hotels in Kabul. (source) 12:48 p.m. ET January 20, 2018


Eyewitnesses are claiming that there are at least 15 people dead or wounded on the first two floors of the hotel. (source) 12:50 p.m. ET January 20, 2018

Wall Street Journal reporter Ehsanullah Amiri reports that a witness saw the attackers throwing people from windows on the 3rd and 4th floors. They went on to say that they saw 4 dead bodies lying on the ground outside of the hotel. (source) 2:13 p.m. ET January 20, 2018


The siege has ended after more than 12 hours, according to officials. Several people are dead and injured, although it is not clear exactly how many. (12:12 a.m. ET January 21, 2018)
