A large preliminary magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck southeast of Arica, Chile, according to seismologists.

The earthquake, which was also near Chile’s border with Peru, was also felt in parts of that country.

The earthquake was deep, which will likely help minimize damage, along with the fact that Chile is very prepared for earthquakes, according to an AlBoeNEWS contributor.
