An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck about 128 km from Iquique in Northern Chile, in the border region with Bolivia at about 2:46 a.m. ET Wednesday morning.

The quake had a depth of 95 km which helped minimize the effects in the area. Light shaking was perceived in the Arica and Tarapaca regions of northern Chile, as well as the southeastern Bolivia region, with no casualties or damage reported so far.
