A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck on Taiwan’s east coast about 10 miles north-northeast of Hua-lien, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage. Taiwan’s high-speed rail system is operating normally.

The USGS later reported another quake in the same area. That quake was measured at 5.3.
