The driver who ran over and killed two children in Brooklyn on Monday told police that she suffers from multiple sclerosis, seizures, and heart problems.
The NYPD revoked Dorothy Bruns’ driver’s license Tuesday, the day after she ran a red light and fatally mowed down 1-year-old Joshua Lew and 4-year-old Abigail Blumenstein and injured their mothers. It is still unclear whether Bruns will be charged.
The 44-year-old Staten Island woman said that she has also had a heart attack and had stents put in, as well as suffering a seizure in January. Bruns told authorities she is on medication for her ailments and has no recollection of what happened right before she crashed.
Her medical records are being subpoenaed so authorities can confirm her health history to determine whether she should have even been on the road. According to a police source, If a physician warned Bruns not to get behind the wheel and she did, there could be charges involving recklessness. Otherwise, she could face vehicular-manslaughter charges.
