U.S. officials have issued a travel warning for a popular tourist city in Mexico, saying it has received information of a “security threat” in the city.

Government officials will be barred from going to Playa del Carmen and the consular agency in the city will be closed. Mexican officials have countered the warning, saying that the city is completely safe.

Last week in Playa del Carmen a ferry exploded, injuring 26 people.
