A helicopter carrying five people has crash-landed in the East River in New York City, images and video posted to social media show. A spokesman for the mayor of New York City says at least two people are dead and one person has been rescued.

Law enforcement sources have confirmed to local media the incident and that emergency officials are on scene.

Emergency divers are being utilized and the governor of New York has been briefed on the situation. The FAA is involved in the investigation.


UPDATE: Officials say the five passengers have all died, and that the pilot made it out safely.
