President Trump pushed out Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. According to the Washington Post, Trump asked Tillerson to resign on Friday.
“I am proud to nominate the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Mike Pompeo, to be our new Secretary of State,” Trump told the newspaper.
The President and Tillerson were at odds on a number of international issues. The pair presented conflicting stances on North Korea, Russia and other crucial and delicate relationships.
Tillerson has long been rumored to be unhappy with Trump’s constant undermining of the State Department’s stance on issues. Lifetime State Department employees have said that the agency has been decimated under Tillerson and a host of positions remain unfilled.
