Multiple schools have been placed on lockdown after police confirmed an active shooting in the area of Fifth Street and Candelaria in Albuquerque, New Mexico, according to local media.

“Police are telling everyone to stay away from the area as the shooting is still active. According to APS, La Luz Elementary and Garfield Middle schools have been placed on lockdown due to the police activity in the area. Also, the Albuquerque Preschool Co-op, MacArthur Elementary, Griegos Elementary and Valley High School have. been put on lockdown. Cochiti Elementary School implemented a shelter in place.”

The suspect is currently contained inside of a residence and authorities are negotiating with him. It is still an active SWAT situation. The suspect is apparently a wanted felon, but police did not offer any more information.
