DEVELOPING: Students Armed with Rocks in Case of an Active Shooter at Pennsylvania School DistrictAccording to a superintendent for the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, students at his schools are armed with rocks in case of an active shooter.

The comments came before state legislators in Harrisburg in front of the House Education Committee. Dr. David Helsel explained that there is a five-gallon bucket of rocks in every classroom closet to be used in “emergency situations.”

“At one time I just had the idea of river stone, they’re the right size for hands, you can throw them very hard and they will create or cause pain, which can distract,” said Helsel.

He also says that all teachers and staff have been given active shooter training at the school. However if they are forced to lockdown their classroom, the rocks are there as a last resort.
