Somali police have reported a large explosion and gunfire near the parliament headquarters in Mogadishu. The explosion appears to be from a car bomb. Smoke could be seen from a distance according to a Reuters witness.

Somali police say a car bomb has been detonated near parliament headquarters in the capital, Mogadishu, killing at least two people along with the driver. Several others are injured.

The car bomb was detonated at a security checkpoint after soldiers intercepted and stopped a suspicious vehicle, senior police Capt. Mohamed Hussein told The Associated Press.
