A van has rammed into a crowd in downtown Muenster, Germany. Three people have reportedly been killed, including the suspect, with up to 20 more injured. Police have rushed to the scene and asking people to avoid the area.

A police spokeswoman has said there are “several dead, probably including the suspect”. Local authorities have said about 20 people were injured in the incident. Police asked people to avoid the city center while they respond to the incident.

Media reports indicate that the crash was an attack and suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive unknown.

Police say a suspicious object has been found in the van. They say they’re still examining what kind of an object it is and whether it’s dangerous. They are also investigating reports that other perpetrators may have fled the scene.

Local media reports that the suspect is a 48-year-old man who has a history of mental illness. He has no apparent link to terrorism.
