A couple in North Texas have charged with forced labor after they allegedly enslaved an African girl for 16 years.
Mohamed Toure and his wife Denise Florence Cros-Toure, both 57, were brought to court on the charge of forced labor. They reportedly arranged for the girl to travel from Guinea to the U.S. in 2001 when she was 5, then forced her to stay by taking her passport and not letting her attend school.
The couple then forced her to do chores throughout their home, as well as care for their 5 children. If she did not perform her duties, the couple would beat her with a belt or electrical cord.
She eventually escaped with the help of former neighbors.
