A vet in New York has pleaded not guilty after being accused of implanting heroin in puppies for a Colombian drug ring.

The vet was originally extradited from Spain, where he was arrested on a U.S. warrant. Lopez Elorza is accused of stitching packets of liquid heroin into puppies to transport the drugs into the U.S., where they would have the packets cut out. It is unclear how many puppies died in the process.
