A 7-year-old boy drowned Saturday afternoon in a pool at an Indianapolis water park.

The boy may have been under water in the six-foot-deep Indy Island Aquatic Center pool for as long as 90 seconds before a lifeguard spotted him, pulled him out and performed CPR, according to a report.

“From what we understand there was another child near him that tried to bring him up and out of the pool for help,” Indiana Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith said to WRTV. But the other child “could not do that and yelled for help.” First responders rushed to the water park at about 2:30 p.m. local time, and took the boy to Riley Hospital for Children where he died.

Something may have triggered the boy to lose his composure and go under the surface, witnesses told WRTV. “It may have been a medical issue that occurred prior to the boy going under the water or while he was in the water that caused him to go under,” Reith said.
