The sound of gunfire prompted police to evacuate a Boca Raton theater Saturday. Officers soon learned those reports of shots fired were false.

It was instead a popcorn machine that was to blame, Boca Raton police said in a Twitter post on Saturday evening.

The machine apparently set off a fire alarm that got movie-goers in a flurry and someone reporting “shots fired,” police said. Authorities evacuated the Cinemark. No one was hurt in the incident.
