At least 5 people are dead and over 12 are injured after violent election clashes in the West Bengal region of India.

The conflicts arose due to a local body elections. Reports from the ground have indicated that the total death count could rise to 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) of instigating violence to disrupt voting.

There were also reports of explosions outside polling stations and several reports of voter manipulation.
