The Associated Press is reporting that a mysterious blast in Syria has killed at least 36 people, some of them children.
The White Helmets said Sunday’s explosion occurred “in the village of Sarmada near the Turkish border, killing 36 people and wounding many others. It says the explosion collapsed two five-story buildings, burying many of the victims.” The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is reporting the death toll at 39, including 21 women and children. That has not been confirmed.
It is believed that an arms depot in the basement of the building exploded. The depot was apparently run by an arms dealer close to an al-Qaida-linked group.
