A mayor of a French town in Northwest France has closed beaches due to a rutting dolphin posing a threat to swimmers.

The dolphin known to locals as Zafar has reportedly been rutting, a behavior associated with the dolphin being in mating season, posing threats to swimmers in the area. The dolphin had been playful, swimming alongside children and residents of the area. However, recently he became more physical, including throwing a woman into the air with his nose.

Several people became scared of the dolphin, prompting the closures. Zafar is not believed to be ill-tempered, but the move was taken out of an abundance of caution.
