Authorities in Germany have rejected an art project bid that sought to rebuild a section of the Berlin Wall.

The project was going to erect 900 concrete wall slabs, each 3.60 meters (about 12 feet) tall at a city block on Unter den Linden boulevard. The “city within a city” was going to have visa checks and visitors would have to apply online for permits to enter.

Authorities cite security and fire concerns as a leading factor for cancelling the project, while also saying that not enough time was given to collect public opinion on the wall rebuilding, with critics saying it could be hurtful for those who lived in communist East Germany.
