Many parents have expressed outrage after a student at a middle school in Davis, California, brought cookies to school made using her grandmother’s ashes.

According to one boy’s parents, the girl brought the cookies and told a few people of their contents before sharing with several other students. The boy also said that school administrators talked to him about it, making him sign a confidential statement, but did not notify his parents.

The school says they cannot comment on the issue, but said that it is being handled by those involved, and no health risk was posed to students.
