A father twice ran over his 3-year-old son with a minivan during a night of trick-or-treating in Michigan, police said. The little boy was expected to survive after suffering injuries to both legs, ABC13 reported.

Before the accident, the boy, his 7-year-old brother, and their 36-year-old father were driving around their neighborhood with the car’s rear doors open and the boys’ legs dangling outside the vehicle. At some point, the youngest boy either fell or jumped from the side of the car.

Upon hearing witnesses’ screams, the dad hit the brakes and backed over the child. He then drove forward, running over his son for the second time. The dad later told police he was driving 3 mph at the time of the incident.
